August 20   Vino Down Under

Yering Station Pinot Noir

This past weekend our NJ Chapter of Women for Winesense had an outdoor event “Vino from Down Under” where we imbibed in wines from both Australia and New Zealand along with munching on some tasty shrimp on the barbie..lamb..chicken.. salad.. pasta salad.. cheese.. meringue cookies.. fruit salad.. Yes.. there was a lot of food to say the least.
We had our special presenter from Wine-Australia, Suzanne Barros who gave us a concise and informative description of the Australian wine scene and I did my part on New Zealand. The big surprise for most people was the Yering Station Nell Pinot Noir full of  luscsious dark fruit with hints of smoke showing true qualities of a good Pinot Noir. The other surprise was not having a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand but a Chardonnay. We had the Kumeu River 2005 Chardonnay from Adelaide. This was full and crisp with an incredible amount of  flavor that lingered on the palate. It reminded me more of a decent Burgundian wine than a New world bomb. The full list of wines for the day were:
Jacob’s Creek Sparkling Chardonnay/Pinot Noir – South Australia
Brokenwood Semillon 2007 – Hunter Valley, Australia
Kumeu River Chardonnay 2005 – Auckaland, NZ
R Wines Bon Bon Rose’ 2008 – South Australia
Yering Station Nell Pinot Noir – Yarra Valley, Australia
Amisfield Pinot Noir 2006 – Central Otago, NZ

John Duval Entity Shiraz 2006 – Barossa Valley, Australia
Kaesler Stonehorse Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2006- Barossa Valley. AU
Mitolo Jester Cabernet Sauvignon 2007-McLaren Vale, Australia
Alice White Lexia Muscat Blanc 2008- South Eastern Australia
It is worthwhile to seek out some of these wines.

I must apologize for the lapse in posting and writing  The Wining Woman blog. Besides this having been a terribly difficult year that has kept me away from my writing duties, I also had to contend with technology problems when my web hoster decided to discontinue my blogging tool and confused me with having to start all  over again. I finally am sitting here working at getting this up and running.

Before I carry on with a big wine story here let’s see if this posting works. Our new URL for the blog should be www.allidoiswine/com/blog

Cheers for now,
